Additional heat sorce for cold side

    Hi guys, need some help.
    Winter is coming
My apartment during that time becomes really cold and I need to set up extra heating in beeps enclosure before it starts. Cold side can drop under 15 celzious and I don't want that.

    Enclosure:
He is in exo terra 90cmx45cm, has exo terra heat cable 25w on his hot side with a thermostat. I bought extra thermostat to set up the cold side.

    Question:
To buy the same exo terra heat cable 25w and put it all around, under the rest of the cage or maybe go with a ultratherm heating mat 22w 40x30cm and set it up just under the cold hide?
A cable catches more space, but maybe mat is better so he has some little chilly cold side in there.
The more I think, the less im sure.

What option is the best or any other suggestions please?

When I used exo terras I had glass cut to fit the top then I drilled it and attached a radiant heat panel. It kept the hot spot beautifully hot and the cool side stayed where I needed it as well. If I were to do this again I'd probably skip having glass cut and just use a 1/4" thick piece of plywood or scrap pvc sheet.

Of your 2 options you mention, I'd be inclined to use the ultratherm as the heat cable I've used in the past had portions that ran considerably hotter than the rest of it.

Re: Additional heat sorce for cold side

i don't have any experience with heat cable so i wish i could help. does heat cable work for ambient temps?

last winter i got a 100W CHE for my 20gal and it's worked well. do you not want to use lamps? i can understand if you don't; they're not ideal.

not too long ago i was actually looking for a way to heat the cool side of my 15qt tub i have. do you have any experience with plastic tubs and heat cable? just curious.

You can use a CHE, RHP or heat bulb to raise your ambient temps inside the enclosure. You can also use a portable heater to raise the ambient temperature in your snake room. I have snakes in multiple rooms and use a combination of these methods to boost my ambient temps.

I've had these issues on my cold side. In Canada we are already getting cooler. I placed a space heater in the room and set at 80. Cool side is at 78 now. Maybe raise the ambient heat in the room.

You need to raise AMBIENT temperature. Look at ceramic heat emitters ....a 60 watt should be just about perfect. Heat rope will not do much for ambient temps.

Yes, from Wisconsin and seconding that a CHE was pretty much my only budget option for ambient temps. Get ready to combat the humidity loss those cause, however.

I try to avoid lamps cause of the humidity, the glass terrarium is in a custom made cabinet, so I would have to put a lamp on the inside and pet shops don't sell lamp cages here, to prevent burns... from ebay I have to wait ages to receive it.
So im left only with this two options. heat cable keeps ambient temps on the warm side at About 26 celzious, hot spot on 32.
Plastic tubs are great and keep heat n humidity better, got a piebald at work in plastic with cable, he sheds, eats and looks great. Mine home is in a big glass terrarium cause its just him FOR NOW haha, like a TV in my room because I stare at him all the time

Can you find Styrofoam or other insulation and cut it to size that fits between the glass tank and the cabinet walls to help keep the heat in the tank?
