hi
Been browsing on the forums for a few weeks now while I do research, and while I don't have a ball yet, soon. We're doing a small trip next month and don't quite feel comfortable getting a snake until after we get back. In the meantime, that gives me plenty of time to poke around, collect things, and try to set up the tubs for our to-be noodle child.
As for proper introductions, I usually go by 'Burd' on most social media lmao. Been wanting a snake since I was about six, I think; even though I lived in town, there was a garter snake that took up shack in one of the bushes in my yard and had a heck ton of babies. My mom was kind of terrified, but that just instantly delighted me. Any opportunity after that in which I was presented with a snake, I wanted to hold it. (Even the venomous ones.... didn't really know much better. Luckily the nice folks at the local Reptile World were pretty patient with me.)
My username's just for sillies tho, like I saw that 'Starscream' wasn't taken and was like MUST NAB NOW BYE .
So. Yep. I'll probably continue lurking and just ask questions occasionally. And post pics of my baby whenever we get them. :3

Welcome. Good job wanting to plan ahead and get your tubs ready before bringing your snake home.
Keep doing your homework, you're sounding like you're off to a good start
oh, and waiting til you get back from your trip to bring a new snake home sounds like a good idea to me as well.

welcome! don't be afraid to ask questions, we're here to help!
one of the first things you should research and buy is a thermostat. it will be the single most important piece of equipment you will buy. you'll need to figure out what type of heating will work best for you, but the thermostat will always be part of the equation.
good luck! 😀

That's the plan! :3 I keep remembering things I need to buy after I've already left the store, so it's probably for the best the trip is still a ways away.

Thank you! I actually purchased a Herpstat yesterday, so we're covered on thermostats, and UTH is gonna be the main heating method. If it's not enough there will probably be a bulb involved somewhere, but we won't know until the thermostat comes in. (all the science, alllll the testing)

Your UTH is there only to provide a hot spot. It is not there to help with ambient temps. You will need an additional heat source unless the ambient temp in the room where the enclosure is stays between 82-86.

That's kinda why I'm at a wait-and-see stage....

Just got my thermostat today and plugged in the UTH! Watching the temp rise on the hot side now! This is more exciting than I thought it'd be, even though we're a ways away yet from getting the noodle.
(things I still need include but are not limited to: substrate, hides, fake plants, branches for climbing, surface temp gun, and further enrichment items. And food, but we'll figure that out closer to The Day.)
