I held a snake for the first time!
OK, so my daughter put the bug in my ear about Ball Pythons and I started to look into them. The more I read and watched, the more I thought that this would be perfect for me. I am probably about a year away from being able to get one as I do not have a place of my own right now.
So, I have been doing my research. I have a plan to build a rack that will be able to handle 2 Ball Pythons from babies to adulthood. I am going to let my daughter pick one out and call it hers, and I'll pick another one out.
Well, part of my research involved me going to the pet store between doctor appointments today. They had 2 Ball Pythons there, a Pastel and a Normal, both about 3 or 4 months old. I asked to hold the Pastel and I fell in love. Unfortunately, I could not take him home, but I did confirm that Ball Pythons will be a part of my future.
This was the first snake that I ever held, and he just curled up in my hand. After a while he started exploring a bit. It was awesome. It seemed that he may be getting cold, so I held him close to me and he curled up and rested his chin on my hand to look out.
I guess I'm hooked!

Aw I'm glad you had a good first experience holding a BP! My first time holding one was a few months ago. I was at Petsmart buying some dog food and I saw that their ball pythons were pretty active. I asked to hold one since I never have before.
As soon as the employee placed the snake in my hands it struck at the guy. I gently stroked it to try to get it to relax but it stayed in strike position and I swear it almost looked like it was glaring at the employee. After he put it back in the cage he told me that they only had it for a few days. I really wish he wouldn't have let me hold it if they haven't even had it for a week! The poor thing was probably stressed because I'm guessing it's been held many times in these last couple of days when it should have been left alone for a week to adjust.

first time i held a snake was at a festival at my uni in 2014: all the groups and clubs were out around campus, the biology department too. they had so many cool animals, as well as a couple ball pythons. i had seen a friend of mine owning one as a pet on social media, so i thought "they're cool, right?" and asked to hold her. she was amazing; it was seriously so cool!
6 months later (and after MUCH research) i took the plunge and brought home a two-month-old ball python. just brought my second BP home on 1/20/2016.
they're amazing animals, and i hope you get to bring one home some day!

It's pretty cool isn't it? First time I held one is when I was a kid. It was a brown water snake and it bit the crap out of me pretty much any time I touched it the whole time I had it. I got bit a lot back in the day when I was spending a lot of time catching snakes. lol

this sounds so similar to how I ended up with a BP of my own. my son wanted one, so we ended up with two. I thought it would be kind of a cool father son thing and we are loving them!

That's awesome! I remember when I held my first big ball python, it was at NARBC in Tinley Park IL. It was a female pied that just laid eggs, the guy was selling her for $800. I should have bought her right there and then, but ended up buying two smaller pieds, a male and female for $400 each. After that I was hooked!

The first time I held my snake was like in the Christmas break. It was a very weird feeling to feel the scales. Haha
