Re: My New Jag!
A good way to tame her down would to give her to me and i will keep her til she is ready to leave...hahaha. But seriously, give her some space for a week or two and touch her back before you pick her up, slowly hold her in her cage and eventually lengthen your handling sessions. You can wear glove if you feel more comfortable, we wont laugh, that much.
Great pick up

Re: My New Jag!
looks really nice... reach at her from below with a flat hand, fingers together. that will minimize your chance of getting tagged... then once she is in hand she should warm up to you.
where did ya get her from?

Re: My New Jag!
She is very pretty. Looks like she was admiring you as food in that last picture.

Re: My New Jag!
thanks for the comments and compliments guys. i got her in a trade deal with a wholesaler who supposedly got her from "that breeder out west" so i guess she could be from anybody. so shes currently under quarantine and seems very healthy and eats like a champ so im cool with not knowing exactly where shes from.
when handling her i remove her with a hook and then let her crawl onto my hand the only problem is that after a bit of looking around she'll decide one of my fingers is a meal and strike and constrict my entire hand. it doesnt hurt that much but shes already done it a few times and im hoping she grows out of it before shes 5-6 ft.
from everything i heard and read, she will eventually calm down so im not worried. even if she stays crazy i dont mind but my girlfriend might as i did kinda get this girl for her...

Re: My New Jag!
i actually just got my first carpet at a show on saturday. She's chilling and has already eaten and pooped for me, these guys are crazy compared to my balls. Ive had 3 short handling sessions (one at the show, one while waiting for the PAM to treat her enclosure and one while i cleaned her cage because she pooped today). S
he's seeming to get a little bolder each time. I put on a long sleeve hoodie and cover my fingers if i can, i may get a pair of gloves because if i get bitten my boyfriend kinda freaks out. I had a baby at the show take a bite or two at me but she's bigger than those hatchlings (about 100ish grams). I think that the string on my hoodie may have spooked her because she struck at it. Granted, she needs her settle in time but i couldnt leave her in a cage of poop for another 5-10 days.
Id say short handling sessions and if she does strike and constrict, dont put her away. Drip a cold drop of water on her head, or maybe use a spray bottle set on mist, i know this snaps any of my snakes out of feeding mode, especially if the water is cool.
From what i've heard, they're kinda nippy as babies but with regular handling sessions they can grow into wonderful adults.
Here's to our carpet journey together, lol *cheers*
PS she is GORGEOUS. My girl has much more black on her but they look like velvet dont they? I love the golds.

I have two carpets I got in June. They are going to tag you gloves or no gloves. You don't need gloves just take the hits they don't hurt at all. Just hold the snake on a regular basis every day and take the tags as they come. We are talking about baby snakes not adult ones. I have a male and a female. The female has 100% calm down the male nips me in the process of taking him out his tank. Then once more when he's out after that he's fine.
