Airline companies such as Delta Dash will ship live rodents.

Need a certificate of health from a vet for each rat, then you need an airline approved shipping container (no cardboard or plastic here!, need to have proper heat or cooling, separated by sex, chew proof, water and food), then you need to find an airline freight carrier to ship for you. (although delta dash may not require a vet certificate, it's something to be prepared for)

    Re: How To Ship?

Overnight in a shaped styrofoam box inside a cardboard box with cold packs or dry ice.
You can get KILLER styro lined boxes from your local vet, they get meds shipped in this boxes, and are usually happy to give them away rather than have to pay to trash them.
    Hope this helps

    Re: How To Ship?

Still working out the bugs on this subject myself.

2 day shipping, styrofoam cooler with 2-3 lbs of dry ice in a box with newspaper and paper bags is the basic recepie.

I put the dry ice in little paper bags (to help stop the customer from just reaching in and grabing the dry ice). then put the paper bags with the dry ice on the bottom of the cooler. Next put a sheet of news paper on top of the bag of dry ice. Next put frozen rodents (that better be in quality freezer bags preferably vaccuum sealed) on top of sheet of news paper. Then put another sheet of news paper on top of frozen rodents. Then put lid on.

They cooler must be very well packed in the box. I had a recent shipment that ended in disaster. the box must have been lightly crushed because there was no damage to the actual box, but the styrofoam cooler on the inside cracked and litterally fell apart. Results were a box of defrosted rats, with no dry ice in site. Thank god the rats were still cold and did not spoil.

Going forward I plan to use a slightly larger box and pad the cooler from the box with crumpled up newspaper. I also plan to put packing tape all the way around the cooler itself to help strengthen it in the event of any pressure being applied to the easy to crack cooler.

Like I said, it is still a work in progress. And to give credit where credit is due Chuck (Cardel75) was the source of most of my information when I shipped my first rodents.

PS, I will definately be checking out the boxes wolfy mentioned above!
