Re: 100% het albino x normal female= what % het?

to be completly honest with you, im not sure that i would even consider 50% hets as anything more than normals. that 50% is really meaningless anyway. you never know what genetics has up its sleves! you could get all true normals that are not het and then spend years trying to prove them out and not get any albinos. on the flip side they could all be hets. its a big gamble and if you really want to produce animals this year then give it a go. but just keep in mind that by doing this you may not achevie your goal of ablinos. if you decide to go for it just don't put too much weight on these being hets.......

agian this is my .02 but i personally wouldn't buy anything but 100% hets nor would i deal with the headache of trying to prove out non 100% hets.....too much time in it and not enough gaurantee of the reward.

Re: 100% het albino x normal female= what % het?

Everyone likes to do things differently, nothing wrong with that at all ... I personally love possible hets ... This past season I proved out 7 adult possible het girls that I either produced or purchased/traded for really inexpensively. I kept them with the idea that even if they didn't prove out they'd just be plain ole normal breeders for me and there's nothing wrong with that. So now my collection is 7 adult 100% het females of various mutations stronger and I'm grinning from ear to ear.

Oh, and for what it's worth, I'm making a ton of possible hets and possible double hets this year. I love em!

Re: 100% het albino x normal female= what % het?

I think to a lot of people possible hets are very confusing. I have heard people say a 66% het will produce a visual morph 66% of the time, that's not the case. It's either 100% het or it's normal. When explaining possible hets to newbies I think it is very important for them to understand that each egg has a 50 or 66% chance of being a 100% het. To me, if I had no idea, a 50% het would mean that he would be het 50% of the time. One year he makes visuals and the next year he may not. I may have just confused everybody on here and it probally makes no sence to anyone but me, just my opinion.
Proving hets probally is fun if you are doing it with a visual and not another het, atleast you know worse case you will be getting hets out of the pairings.

Re: 100% het albino x normal female= what % het?

i don't disagree that proving out hets are fun. but when you are talking to people who have a limited amount of space and somewhat limited funds then i don't see the worth in picking up 50% hets.

i will tell you that i really would like to get into lav albinos and those would be the only non 100% hets i would buy but it would have to be a set of 66% and i would try and buy the entire clutch to improve my odds. this would probably be kinda pricey which again comes into the limited funds part.

if you can make it work then work it....

Re: 100% het albino x normal female= what % het?

Thanks guys. Yea it is kind of confusing, but I'm not confused by the 50% or 66% het, I know those percentages only mean it's "50% chance of being het, or 66% chance of being het, but not 100% POSITIVELY het."

But, if both parents are 100% het, and the normals in the clutch will only be 66% het, then..How do you know something is 100% het? If one parent is albino and the other is 100%? Or if both parents are albinos?

Does my question even make sense to anyone?

Let's see if I understood the question

How do you know which ones are hets which ones are not when you bred het to normal or het to het, well you don’t!

    Now as far as results

Albino bred to a normal will give you a cluth of 100% Het Albinos
Albino bred to an het albino will give you Albinos and 100% Het Albinos
Albino bred to Albino will give you a clutch of albinos

You wont know if its 100 % het unless you prove it out.
