personally i prefer to use a mix of cocofiber, peat and a dash of sand - they do well with a moisture gradient in the substrate and maintaining this is important to nailing their humidity parameters which aren’t excessive but still important - i provide a couple of inches of substrate for adults as they like to burrow a bit and i keep the ambient temp for them and all my arachnids at a median range of 75-80F - with scorplings i would also suggest beheading prey items before drop feeding until they get some size on them as the mandibles of say, a cricket, could harm them when young and smol

the sand separates the particles of the substrate to stave off mold growth but you have to mix it really well or you’ll get sand pockets - i recommend using a bowl or tub to mix it up before putting it into the enclosure, works better that way
