Happy 99th Birthday, Pepere!!!
This past week my Grandfather turned 99. So yesterday we threw him a party with friends and family. Unfortunately, at age 99, he's outlived pretty much all his friends and family. Fortunately, a few years ago a local author wrote a book about local WWII heroes. My grandfather is featured in the book in his own chapter. The book has become wildly popular beyond expectations. The men in the book have been traveling together doing book signings, interviews, public speaking and receiving awards. Pepere has found a bond, and friendship among these men and three of them were able to attend Pepere's party with their families. Sadly, one of the men passed just last month, but he was remembered at the party with a few words and a toast.
Here's the link to the book if anybody is interested:

Here's a link to a thread where Pepere held his first snake ever at 97 years old:

Anyway, we had a great time and it's always nice to spend time with family. Life takes us in different directions, and we don't see each other all that often, but whenever we do it's like we're kids again who see each other all the time.
I didn't take as many pics as I would have liked, and most came out lousy. So I only have a few to share for now. I'm hopping my photo crazed cousin sends me a few that I can add later.
Anyway, Happy Birthday, Pepere! You're an amazing man and I'm lucky to say I'm your grandson. I hope I'm making you proud these days. I'm trying....
I love you.
Enjoy your families, people. They're a blessing. I missed out on too many family events I can never get back. Don't learn the hard way like I did...

Thanks Richard. Grandparents truly are a blessing. I was fortunate enough to have had all 4 until I was 14 and 3 out of 4 until I was in my early 30s. Many people at 40 years old have unfortunately lost all of their grandparents. I'm lucky.
...and the book is fantastic. It's a great read for anybody who appreciates history. I especially love the books which tell the stories through the eyes of those who lived the events. This book shares each sodier's story, often times in their own words.

Thanks Reinz!!! One day memories will be all we have. But they're special, they're ours and we can hold onto them eternally. I wouldn't trade them for the world.
