Toref moved to his new digs - Haven't seen him and he hasn't eaten

    Hey Monitor peeps!

I moved Toref into his life enclosure earlier this week and I haven't seen him since day one and he hasn't eaten.

Here's the link to his thread: https://ball-pythons.net/forums/show...d-Tree-Monitor

Any feedback is welcomed. I assume he can go a little while longer, but is there anything I should do or just let him be?

He can be quite shy, but this is pushing it. I am afraid to bother him for fear I scare him and he doesn't feel safe in there.

    Again, any thoughts are welcomed.

His new tank is a boaphile 4X2X1.5' tank with hot side 90-100F during the day with a 135-140F basking spot. His cool side is about 84F during the day.

At night, the hot side drops to about 78-80F ground temp and 75F air temp with a cool side about 72F.

Except for the nighttime drop, this is all very consistent with his old tank (which was about 21"X10"X10").

When you first got him, how long did he hide for? You'd think he'd be loving the bigger cage, but I guess "no good deed goes unpunished"?

He didn’t really. He’s gotten more shy over time. He ate within a day or two after getting him.

That's troubling, I really hope that after a rest, he'll normal out. I dunno, have no experience with these guys...it would sure be nice if he could be more of a pet,
but maybe that's not in the cards?

I have no experience with monitors, but it looks like he’s still very small. Is it possible that he’s just intimidated and uncomfortable in his new mansion of an enclosure? Maybe he was moved into it too soon?

I know you’ve sorta of had a tough time getting Toref to settle down since the beginning. I hope he starts to be more trusting very soon so you can both enjoy a less stressful relationship.

They are supposed to love space. However, if he’s not eating ASAP I will re access.

Yes, I’ve definitely read that about them, but I think that if he isn’t eating, it couldn’t hurt to relocate him back to his smaller enclosure and see how he does. He’s such a shy little guy!

Well, Toref is alive and well, even if he hasn't eaten yet. He's apparently loving the new hide I gave him that's a cave. Small opening and big hollow and enclosed hide space.

I peeked in and he seems ok. He's alert and looks good. I'll give him another day or two.

Maybe he's hoping for "room service"? Have you tried putting his bowl with a little food near the doorway to his hide? (& if he eats, start moving it further away)

There was a butterworm missing yesterday, but very little, if any mouse parts were gone. I wasn't convinced and thought maybe the butterworm got out of the dish (unlikely, but possible???).

Well, today, I caught him on video peeking out and exploring a bit and............a few crickets were gone. He's eating and starting to explore. I am very happy.
