My new snake won't eat.

I purchased my ball yesterday from a previous owner and he told me the python would need to be fed soon. Anyway, I thaw a feeder and present it to the snake via thongs. The snake strikes it and I shake the mouse a times and close the cage. Well I check on him 15 minutes later and he's just moving the mouse around the cage.

As long as he's still messing with it, leave him alone. If he doesn't eat, leave him alone for 5-7 days and offer again (which is the usual recommendation for settling in a new BP).

I'm a little worried though, because there was a lot of bedding attached to the snake. Will that pass just fine?

I'm using the aspen natural bedding. Now I have another question, should I find him another? I think he's too large to be feeding on just one mouse.

I prefer my snakes not to eat bedding, but it does happen. Some of mine are on aspen (poor feeders) and ingest it when I feed them.

And as for him feeding, if he strikes and takes it, he'll probably eat it. It's not very common that they will constrict something and not eat it, you just have to give them time and space to eat.

I am one of the Snake keepers that feeds in separate tubs. This is disputable topic itself. I always ask the last date fed and shed, I should start asking about deification too. Feed your new snake the same it was fed from the previous owner. After two feedings double the amount for two feedings then bump up the size of rodent. If you decide to go this route get one on the smaller side. Good Luck!
