    Re: quarantine

I have a friend who does QT for me, his wife only lets him have one snake and she doesn't like snakes at all - she refuses to go into the room with the enclosure - so she's never noticed that every few months they change... and since he can only have one at a time it limits my purchases to 4 per year, which helps save my wallet!

As long as you buy from a reputable breeder you will more than likely be fine and quarantine is more of a precaution. Having someone else keep it during quarantine isn't a bad idea either. You are more likely to get mites from a new addition than an air born illness. It can happen, but I have yet to have it happen to me or anyone I know.

    Re: quarantine

Even reputable breeders can have snakes fall ill. Or unintentionally introduce something into their collection. Reputable breeder breeder or not, quarantine should be a default. Mites can spread disease too.

I wasn't trying to say that reputable breeders don't have snakes that fall ill, but the likelihood of getting an animal that has an air born disease isn't very high and following standard quarantine procedures is just an added precaution. I don't know about you, but other than getting mites from a big breeder I have never had an issue with any animal I have quarantined. I still take quarantine seriously but I try to be careful who I buy from too.

QT procedure described as same room, housed in separate racks in different areas of the room (posts #28 and 114) in a much longer drama-filled thread: http://www.faunaclassified.com/forum...d.php?t=105621
Wow. That is absolutely horrifying. I can't even imagine that. I really want to know the outcome of the guy that tried suing him.

I want to say 2 things on this. 1
if you keep the snake at another place be sure they(person that has house)is willing and able to do basics maintenance like feed and clean the cage. ( if you come down sick or get injure it may be hard to do everything and maintain the qt)I would suggest that if possible you get a shower once back home.

the second thing is also . If people think about it, there is the chance of picking something up at the show (healthy animals can caught something if a less than honest vendor is there too ) . even with all the hand sanitizer around.

I know, at the last expo I attended I found a mite on my hand halfway through. Ugh!
