Oh wow! Those two are seriously some gorgeous Danes. That picture of them on the bed is hilarious! What a lovely pair of boys.

They are real lookers! I always preferred these colors as opposed to the merle stuff!

I have recently been looking up information on Danes being used for hog hunting, it is pretty awesome!
LOL, you mean besides spoiling them rotten & taking them just about everywhere I go so they can be good breed ambassadors? Once their championships are finished the goal is to get them certified as therapy dogs.

Did you know Danes were originally bred for running down wild boar? Da boyz certainly wouldn't be cut out for it, but it's interesting to see what some folks use the breed for these days.

Thank you!! They really are hilarious - such different personalities, but they play with -and off - each other exceptionally well. They've become such a part of our family.

Lol true true, they are the perfect breed for spoiling and making into therapy dogs. You going to try and get them into a specific type of place? I think sick kids would really love to see some big goofy horse dogs!

Yes ma'am I did! I am always fond of people using dogs for their original purposes and its kind of comical watching show bred Danes channel their "wild" side and try and hunt lol
I think it would be a hoot watching them lol

    They are gorgeous though!

Are you aware that the "purpose" of the breed began to evolve in the late 1800s? Danes were originally extremely drivey, unpredictable, vicious dogs when used for boar hunting. They were actually banned from American show ring for several years (1881 - 1888) due to their horrible temperaments & overall coarseness. Selective breeding began to make them estate and family dogs, which is where their wonderful temperaments and beautiful appearance come from today. Between 1877 & 1890 this breed changed significantly in the US, and continued to do so to produce the amazing dogs we know today.

Furthermore, there's not a distinction in Danes as there sometimes is in other breeds between confo types & working/field types, i.e. what you find in confo GSDs & Dobes vs working GSDs/Dobes, and confo setters (pick a breed) vs. field trial setters. There is quite a bit of divergence in some breeds between overbred lines for the confo ring and working lines. That sort of divergence is a failure of the judges and breeders because function should, in theory, follow form. Not saying this is the case all the time, but there are definite distinctions in some breeds.
Having said that, the purpose of the Dane is to be a friendly, dependable, majestic dog (to paraphrase the standard). There are not show bred Danes vs. non show-bred Danes. There are breeders who are breeding to standard & health testing, evaluating, and titling their dogs, which produce either companion quality or show-potential puppies depending on how well they conform to standard. And there are greeders who just throw dogs together to make a buck. They'll give you all sorts of excuses and justifications for not showing or health testing their dogs...and it's all a load of crap IMO.
