During Shed

Hi,
Ive read different view on feeding during shed. Some people say do some say dont. I would really like to keep my BP on his feeding schedule while he is shedding unless there is a reason not to feed him. Any advice?

All Honesty, dont worry about. Some snakes will feed during shed , most wont. I personally dont bother unless I have one extra hanging around that I dont want to throw out or take back to a cage.

My two normals will eat at anytime, no matter what, I think they would eat themselves till they couldn't move anymore if i let them.

Yeah, you SHOULD feed them. Some snakes won't take if their shedding but you should always offer. Stick to your schedule and if he shows a pattern of not eating while he's in shed than you can go from there

I agree with this. Some people don't feed during shed because they know their snake won't eat during this time. If yours proves not to as well, then no harm in skipping that week. But if your particular snake does eat despite a shed, then I feel you should feed. Snakes expend a lot of energy when shedding, which is why they are always starving immediately after, so having that meal is only beneficial to them.

BUT, just keep in mind that BPs in particular can be finicky eaters at times. Even a piggy snake can suddenly decide they have to fast for some reason or other (like mine, lol). A schedule is good, but be flexible when it's necessary.

Feed him, if he eats he eats, if he doesn't he doesn't. They aren't going to die or get hurt because they are in shed. The only thing is that they don't see as well when they are in shed, which really isn't a problem considering they mostly go by sent and heat. I feed all of mine regardless of who is or isn't in shed. I do have a couple that won't eat when they are in shed, and I know exactly who they are, everyone else eats regardless.

I feed the same day every week and everything get offered food, the majority will eat during shed and a few won't every time they shed, over time you will know whether the animal eats no matter what, but the only way to know is to try.

Worst that can happen is a refusal in that case try again on the next feeding day and if your BP does not eat for a week or two it's no big deal either.

Mine won't eat while their eyes are grey, but they'll eat right after. Then, if they get a good meal, they'll have a good, quick shed. The tricky part for me is that they don't seem very interested between grey eyes and actual shed. But if I don't feed during that time, they'll act real lethargic and either have a bad shed or not shed at all until fed.

Thanks for all the info, mostly thats what i figured. My BP eats everytime i offer him a mouse. So I fed him last night and he ate no problem.
