Well, it seems that way anyhow. I hope I'm wrong but I've seen this before, scenario wise, and it generally winds up with no one happy except the original complainant.

Eh, you tried, I tried, others tried.
I have done all the research and I have asked a ton of people as well as showed them the ordinance. The only thing that I have been told is that I have to follow what the city administrator says and he has told the cops all that they have told me. The ordinance is bogus and very open ended, but this can only be addressed at a city council meeting. I don't know if you are saying that I haven't done any research or don't want any help, but I have done a lot of research and asked a ton of people about the situation; I have even asked people that have gone through similar situations as I. I do think that they are right on the ordinance because it is so open ended and can include almost any pet if you think about it. The way I am understanding the permit issue is that I need to convince the council to revise the ordinance and considering the paperwork that they got me was from 1992, they are almost required to change the ordinance.

I don't know if this is referring to me, but I have the ordinance in writing and the town is small enough that the city police is the one to do the enforcing the ordinances and laws. I am just looking for people's opinions and help if I need it which I am finding out that I do. I do not need any criticism if this is aimed towards me because it seems like everyone else wants to help.

Ok Cops have very limited understanding of what the laws they enforce are. Go to your city clerk and apply for the kenneling permit. Do not say that its for snakes until you have too. Its not relevant. If and only if the city clerks office gives you a petition should you worry about getting one signed. At that point ask what the criteria are.

Next go to your city counsel meeting and try to get a chance to speak. Take every second they allow to tell a story about how the cop wants to take your 4 cats. If anyone tries to interrupt you quickly say "I have the floor, point of order" Figure out what rules the committee uses and use them. Then at the end say "Oh yeah minor correction, I have 4 snakes, not cats, but the law applies to cats too.

Next find some cat poop. Put it on your yard. Complain to the cops that your old lady neighbors cat poop on your lawn, and that when you went to complained to her you saw she has more than 3. Chances are its true.

Wow I am from Nebraska City I am glad I don't have my collection there as I have around 40 balls now. Anyways you should be able to fight this easy enough with the previous suggestions.

Re: City of Seward wants to take away snakes!!!

the first lesson you should learn from this is no warrant no entry...
lesson 2 from the looks of the ordinance it looks like you should only have one and need a permit for that...
surely your town has a code enforcement officer they can not just start ordering you to do this or that...
what happens is they get a complaint then they send someone to see
then they issue you a ticket for what they think you violated...
then you have 2 options you ignore it and take it to court or just pay the fine.

this case does sound like someone is trying to flex political muscles.. legally they have to tell you who filed the complaint

Re: City of Seward wants to take away snakes!!!

Hey everyone! Thanks for the advice. I especially like the cat poop idea!!! That is the funniest idea I have heard yet. Got a good laugh out of it. I just recently found this article that I think will help me out a lot. I have been trying to put together all the facts and this article has them all!! Great for reptile owners and for people deathly afraid of snakes! http://www.rexano.org/SafetyFrame.htm This organization is for the defense of exotic animals. Great for reptile owners.
