My first BP. She was really skinny when I got her, but has plumped up to 245g already. Great personality; hissed the first time I moved her into her home and never been cranky since. Eats like a little piggy.

The setup: The tank was labeled as "15G half" but I'm not exactly sure the size, it's approx. 24x12x6. 4" flexwatt underneath back edge controlled by Ranco thermostat with clamp lamp for a little extra ambient heat. Aspen bedding. Excellent temps and humidity confirmed by digital hygrometer and IR gun-type thermometer. Plexiglass over screen lid to adjust humidity (not shown).

Glad she is starting to plump up for you! With an open aquarium type tank, I would add more hides and maybe some fake plants or leaves. It will look nice, and she will feel more secure. Often in a rack setup you can go without hides, but this type I think they would be welcome. Good on you for getting a good thermostat and digital gear to read temps and humidity.

I have actually been thinking of covering the two sides and back of the tank with cardboard to add to the security. I know the plants would be a good idea, but personally I don't like how they look. I like the minimalistic look with just the bare essentials. I would maybe try some pieces of natural driftwood or grapewood instead of fake plants.

Very good looking snake there. That is a hot normal. Cool tank too. never saw one before. I would definitly add another hide on the other side. also for screen top tanks I found that covering 2/3 to 3/4 of the top with some foil or something to keep in humidity.

also for screen top tanks I found that covering 2/3 to 3/4 of the top with some foil or something to keep in humidity.

I use a thin sheet (.125") of plexiglass to cover most of the screen lid, I just took it off for the pictures because it was causing a glare. It works well because I can change how much of the screen it covers to dial in the humidity just right.

I figured people would like that tank. It caught my eye at a reptile show and I had to have it. Very unique. The way I see it, for a terrestrial species like the ball python, anything higher than 6-8" is really just wasted space.
