Records
I'm sure most of you keep records for your snakes. How detailed are those records?
I have always kept a notebook....each snake has a page and I keep detailed records of everything they do: What size meal, when they poop, when they shed and monthly weight records.
When we had four snakes that was easy....but now that we have 21, yeah, not so much. I've gotten slack. I need to come up with a system that's a little easier to record than the notebook.
Could you please show me what you record and how you keep those records?
Here is my notebook spreadsheet for one of our snakes:

i use an app that helps me keep track of everything: feeding day reminders, struck or refused and prey type, shedding and days since last shed, weight tracking, time since last full enclosure cleaning, and any other things i like to keep track of.
i only have 3 snakes, but i really like having the app. when i got a new phone, i was able to download all my data and re-upload it into my new phone. you can also download the info into a spread sheet and print it out.

I have an app that I use that tracks everything ball python related that I have had in beta for the last couple months. It utilizes an engine that I developed for my real job. I am going to put it up for free usage as soon as I get past some deadlines for the stuff that actually makes money. Has a genetics calculator too however I don't have enough pics yet to make it pleasant to use.
Stuff that is needed at a glance I actually write on the tubs with a sharpie. Last shed, any feeding issues, who they are being mated with etc.

I use reptilescan android app (and complementary web app) to track everything. Also trying pythonhead tracker atm, it has a free account you can drive test too.
I'm not really satisfied with the first (costs 20 $), the second is still missing some useful functions like who has to eat when.
As far as what record I've given up keeping defecation record after 10 snakes, everything else goes on there except daily spot cleaning.

Re: Records
For the animals that are in my permanent collection I keep breeding records to know how the females progress.
Feeding I keep track of exceptions which mean I keep track if they don't eat (less tenter considering the number of animals I have). All that is done via reptile scan.
Hatchlings for sale I keep track of feed but just like above I write down exceptions. Done on individual index cards.
I don't keep track of shed, weight or bowel movement, I would not do it for one and definitely would not do it for hundreds, as it is irrelevant for me.

Re: Records
I only have two snakes so I keep a steno notebook for each animal. I track their feedings, sheds, poop/urine output, tank cleanings.
But, with only two snakes this is pretty easy. Back years ago I had 13 snakes - I still did this same method - worked good for me.
When my one snake had to go the vet - the vet was amazed at the information I could provide to him by flipping thru my steno book LOL. He said he wished everyone kept such thorough records of their animals husbandry.

I had no idea they made apps for that kind of thing. That's pretty awesome. I have to check that out! Thanks guys!
Maybe I could do a dry erase marker on the tubs for a reminder until I had time to drag out the notebook? That may work. It would may also be easier to keep single spreadsheet on my computer instead of an actual notebook. I hadn't really thought of that.

For those using apps.....
Please remember to at least back up your data. Never trust computers alone for important stuff. I have been in the computer industry for going on 30 years and I still keep hard copies of really important stuff because I know what can go wrong.

I use Reptile Scan (http://reptilescan.com/) for my collection and record nearly everything. I love objective information, so I keep track of way more things that I will likely ever need. Sheds, defecations, empty weights, meals (including gram weight), breeding season temp drops, pairings, locks, ovulations, lay dates, hatch dates, hatch weight, etc - I've got them all for every single animal I've ever kept. Sure it takes an extra minute or two to do, but it's part of my routine and I wouldn't do it any differently.
