Wow, good question! I have several of every size (except the largest) and I just give the snake the appropriate size. Not sure what the length/weight to hide size ratio is though. I'll have to make a note on that some day!

I use smalls up to 350 grams, mediums up to 1200 grams, and then larges.

Here is a comparison picture of the mini, small, and medium size hides with a 200 gram pastel BP. (the mini is too small for ball pythons)

The Smalls are really small. I would guess that by the time a Ball Python is 7-8 months old, they would be out growing it. The Mediums can hold a snake up to about 3 ft. If your snake is anywhere around 18 inches or ao, I would suggest the Medium size. If it is a little big, you can put some balled up newspaper in it to fill up some of the space. The large size can be used for snakes over 3 feet. One of my boas just outgrew his Large hides, and he is over 5 feet...

    Re: Reptile basic hides

    Good Day All,

I will soon be switching from tank to tub, and looking for some good sturdy, cheap hides, I have two questions if you may:

Any reputable websites where I can obtain these hides?

And would a 41qt tub fit two large hides for a 1500 + female?

P.S. @Vypyrz I appreciate your sticky post about setting up tub enclosures.

    Thank you.
    Anthony

I have heard a lot of people don't use hides in racks, especially with newspaer substrate because they can just go under it if need be. are there any situations tha would make me want a hide, aside from eating cause they all do that too. I throw a hide when they're shedding until they are used to just rubbing against the side.

You can always call Rich and tell him the size of your snake. He is pretty good at helping out with any questions.

I would just buy the mediums and stuff some newspaper in there to take up space until the snake is big enough to use the whole hide.
