    ASF pup colour

I have recently had my first batches of ASF pups.
I am breeding for colour, and temperament in mine, and using the extras (or the duds) as feeders.

I have some pups (at only a few days old) which have very very dark fur. Me and my boyfriend agree that it looks black, and not brown or gray like the majority of the other pups.

I just want to know, if this is a normal thing for them before they molt into their baby fur? Or if I may have a colour morph.

If someone could show me pictures of their darkest looking pups, it might be helpful. Thanks!

    Re: ASF pup colour

Fancy finding you here on this forum!

I have had all different kinds of shades in my agouti. My newest pups are only a few days old so won't be much help when it comes to photographs. You'll be surprised how different their color will look as they mature. My darkest babies all lightened up significantly.

    Hi there!
This place has a very active ASF section. Even though it's a feeder section, it's got loads of info.

I'll keep an eye on them. Most of the dark ones have lightened up except for one. I'll get photos when I can.

All black is not a morph... it is a "normal"

Uhhhhm. I hate to burst your bubble there Mike, but those are agouti, not black.

    Re: ASF pup colour

No, they are black. as you can see by the shine on the tub this picture was taken with the flash. What you are seeing is the shine of the fir, skin color showing through, and the flash. (photography 101) In person you would see that their fir is all black. They are what is considered to be "normal".

Your not likely going to come across a new morph.. Just different variations of the already existing morphs. Reason I say this is that your supplier that you got yours from at the Tampa show, like most everyone in the South East, likely either directly or indirectly got their original breeders from me... or from the breeder I got my original breeders from.

I must admit, you are a very difficult person to get along with. Your short time here has shown that all you like to do is argue and be difficult. Going forward I think I am going to need to just avoid responding to your posts. I wish you luck in the future though.

    Good Day,

    Mike

Looks agouti all day long and flash has nothing to do with it. My black rats look black with flash.

Yeah. It's agouti, not black Mike. It's very easy to tell them apart.
'Normal' or wild ASFs are agouti, which is a brown ticked fur where each hair is striped with several different shades. That is what you have there in the tub.

My asfs also did not come from the Tampa show.
I have stock from a private US breeder, and imported German stock.

    Re: ASF pup colour

I see agouti, not black, but I've never bred or kept ASFs.

Rhasputin, you should post pics of your pups.
    Under Construction.....

I have to borrow someone else's camera to do it, but I'm doing that tonight, so I will.
