Do people trade their snakes of equal worth to mix up the blood? Because I was just thinking. I bought a pair of het albinos that are siblings I assume. The first male albino I make I would keep and breed. How bad is mother to son breeding? How many generations would be the max for this before you would recomend getting a new blood line?

It's quite common and rarely if ever has caused a problem to date, but I personally feel working to diversify your breeding stock as much as possible has many advantages for a good breeder.

How many generations would be the max for this before you would recomend getting a new blood line?

Ball pythons are still a relatively "new" species as far as captive breeding ... there have only been a handful of captive generations produced to date so it's hard to say .... but if you look to corn snakes, many corn breeders have said that they are into their 11th and 12th generation of related captive breedings and they aren't having any major problems .... yet.

its always good to try and diversify the blood it helps with diseases and stuff however i believe ( correct me if im wrong) that inbreeding of BPs isnt excactly like people. they are less complicated (geneticaly)

and if you don't know the genetics of the ones you have... then their parents may have also been related!
