I asked this question awhile ago and recieve no reponse so in honor of the bright tail on that sucka I'll ask it again:

Does anyone know what is the reason why the red-tail boa has a red-tail?
Why and how did it evolve?

Perhaps it is unknown and no one has made any speculations about it.

Have you considered that red is the "danger" or "warning" color in nature. It may be a cautioning color which makes potential predators think twice about a red-tailed boa as a meal. Just a thought.
