Feeding two rats in one night?
Does anyone feed their ball two rats/mice in one night OR say one Monday, one Tuesday.
Just wanted to know if people do it or not & wether it’d be worth trying.
I only ask as mine always looks to be wanting more straight after eating one.

Re: Feeding two rats in one night?
My BP now requires near adult rats, but if they're not available, she'll gladly eat multiple smaller mice. I fed her 6 hoppers in one session once

It's worth noting that I feed live though, which means she has a more excited response towards rodents than towards F/T feeders.

Re: Feeding two rats in one night?
I mean, I’m pretty sure a ball python would take it. Snakes are opportunistic, in the wild many snakes would eat as much as they can in a sitting or two, just in case prey becomes scarce later on. This could be considered power feeding if you continue to do this. It could lead to obesity if it carries on, as these animals aren’t really that wild and don’t do a lot of exercise (even in we’ll furnished enclosures).

Re: Feeding two rats in one night?
The only time I will is when Im moving up in prey size for an animal.
For example: If I have a snake that has been taking rat pups for a while, and it's ready to move onto small rats.
Then, I might feed two pups to use up the rest of my supply before making the switch to the smalls.

I’ve never done it before. Just wanted to know if anyone else has done it & if it was alright to do. Doubt I’ll be doing it though I’ll stick to doing a feed once a week.

My snake has almost came out of his 40 gallon aquarium striking at a f/t. So I wouldn’t be so sure that all f/t eaters are lazy feeders

My banana is the same. She will finish one small rat and then come to the front of the tank and watch me hoping for another... got to be careful reaching in to change the water while she's like that, she will chase my hand across the tank thinking I have more food.

Re: Feeding two rats in one night?
I have done both, I have four males. They are all mousers by my choice. I try and feed every seven days. There are times during the year when I’ll purposely offer two in one feeding, but not very often. And the two oldest take breaks from eating every January to late June. Taking only one or two during that time period. They all eat jumbo mice. They range in age from around almost three to almost 5 years old. The oldest two weight over 1650 grams, the two youngest around 1150 grams. Like others have mentioned the key is not over feeding them, obesity is a major problem with most captive snakes. Just my two cents, ✌️.
