Monti has escaped!
We've had Monti a year, and everything's been going wonderfully. About two weeks ago, my husband built a custom lid to her tank, and unfortunately, he didn't realize it had one loose piece. Apparently, Monti discovered sometime since yesterday.
We all sat and watched for for awhile yesterday evening, but at lunchtime today, we realized she was missing.
We have searched all afternoon and evening, so far to no avail. I've set up a heating pad/hide for her...as well as a rat to hopefully draw her out.
Her tank is downstairs in our home. Is it likely that she would have "climbed" the stairs? I know it's *possible,* and no one is a fortune-teller, but so far we've been focusing most of our searching downstairs. Do you think that's wise?
I hate that I don't know where she is.

Re: Monti has escaped!
Try looking in and around all the heat sources, computer tower, fridge, etc. then look under / in sofas in closets. Remember they are active at night
Good luck!

Re: Monti has escaped!
Are there any dark closets nearby? Be sure to check those thouroughly.
Also try to find any small holes in the wall she could have gotten into. That's when you know you've got an even worse problem..
My snake escaped once, and I found her only a few feet from her cage, just hiding behind something. I had turned over everything in my room expecting to be in some hard-to-read/find hiding place but she got bored pretty fast.
You never know... So check the nearest places too.
I'm assuming you already did, so at this point, good luck. Hope you find her.

Re: Monti has escaped!
Thanks.
Unfortunately, there is a hole in the wall nearby, where my husband had run some network cable. Is there any sense in opening up the wall? My fear is that once she is in the wall, really she could have gone anywhere.

Re: Monti has escaped!
BPs aren't really known for climbing so it's quite possible the snake is relatively close. I'd open it up and see. Unless you think it could have gotten through the other side.

Re: Monti has escaped!
I totally feel for you here! My BP escaped for the first time a little over a week ago and it was so scary for me, so I know how you're feeling. My happy ending came very quickly, as I noticed he was missing on Friday morning, and he was almost literally waiting for me in plain sight when I got home that night after work.
From everything I've heard from people with similar experiences, their BPs were usually fairly close to their enclosure. Check tiny spaces, anywhere there's a heat source. I would also try to do your searching at night when BPs are most active. Sitting quietly downstairs in your house at night and listening for any unusual sounds might help.
I REALLY hope you find your baby soon! I only had to worry about mine for a day and I was in full on panic/anxiety mode. Keep us posted.

Re: Monti has escaped!
WE FOUND MONTI!!!
This afternoon we went ahead and opened the wall...no luck. We did more searching/cleaning throughout the afternoon...just systematically looking. Tonight, Patrick was going through some stuff in his den and found things that belongs in his clothes closet. Upstairs. In our room. (Her tank is downstairs in our family room!)
So, just now...1:00 am, he brings the stuff up. It belongs on a shelf under his hanging shirts. The shelf is at about waist-height. He pulls his shirts back, and there was Monti!
We are tripping out at how long her journey was! Wow! She was pretty cool (to the touch), but seems in perfect health. We got her nice and warmed back up, and she's happily and safely back in her tank.
I'm soooooooooo relieved.
