    Rescue Stories

I thought members might want to share some of their BP or other herp rescue stories.

I've had the chance (I guess you could call it that) to rescue three herps. My favorite was when I was in high school I got a job at a local chain pet store (boo i know but i was in high school). There was a baby albino berm there that was very nippy and some of the stock boys thought it was funny to spray water in its face or bang on the glass to get it to strike at them. After yelling at one of them and getting my boss involved the tormenting stopped however the snake didn't find a home. Over time caring for the reptiles I got attached to him so when I moved to Georgia I asked my boss if I could take him. Being a great guy, he agreed, they couldn't sell him cause of his aggressiveness not to mention his mites. It took months of rehab for him to trust me and be trusted by me. After a few years he was puppy dog tame with me but would still tense up around strangers. He was definitely my favorite rescue, if not my favorite python.

    What is your story?

    Re: Rescue Stories

I rescued my 6ft colombian red tail boa from my ex. We dated for a while and I absolutely adored Boots which was my first experience with reptiles really other than being a kid and playing outside with various critters. We broke up and I had been away for about a month. Had not talked to said ex, but ran into his roommate and he proceeded to tell me that said ex had let his light burn out and wasn't home due to working out of town so Boots never got to get out or anything and was being fed every 2 weeks if that when said ex was in town. I started going over to the house again to care for Boots, got his temps back up and got him on a regular feeding schedule and even was going over there like three times a week just to get him out if nothing else. In the meantime, I was staying at my mom's caring for her during a few surgeries she was having and also going to school full time at night after working all day. Everything settled down with my mom finally and I moved out and moved Boots with me. That's about it. He's a really good snake after all that he's been through. Oh and he was only with said ex for about 8 months prior to me coming along, he was given to him by someone else that couldn't care for him any longer. He is with me now and will never leave me. He's my spoiled 6ft little boy lol!!

Success is just one decision, one commitment and a whole lot of hard work away…
