Thinking about adopting some leo's, help!

    Hello!!

My friend actually was given a pair of leo's but can no longer care for them cuz shes going to school and won't have time. Right now there in a ten gallon tank with a UVA bulb, a couple hides, calci-sand and a water dish. There both adult females too. What would be the best idea with these guys? I have a spare 10 gallon tank, so I was thinking about seperating them, but are they like buddies now? I don't how well these guys do with cage mates so I don't know if I wanna keep them together. She said they have never faught before so I guess there ok. Whats a good diet too? Is a thermostat needed if I use a UTH? HELP!

Firstly: Get them OFF of calci-sand, its a garbage product that puts your lizard at risk of fatal gastrointestinal impactions. Get them onto an unswallowable substrate like papertowel or reptile carpet.

Leopard geckos don't need special UV lighting, so you can ditch that. I would set up an UTH (u can use a lamp dimmer) to get a hot spot of about 90F for them for 1/2 the tank.

I would also recommend seperating them, a 10 gallon is bare minimum tank size for one gecko...definitely too small for two. Living seperately means less stress, no competition for food or hiding spots and you can tell how much each gecko is eating.

I feed my geckos on gutloaded superworms, but u can also use crickets. Depending on the state that these lizards are in (ie. if they are skinny) you will want to feed them every day until they bulk up a bit, and then you can feed them every 2-3 days.

Hope I managed to answer all your questions.

thank you for your info, that really helped ALOT!! I gotta get another UTH. Also I have a rheostat that can prolly keep it at like 90-95 give or take so hopefully that will be ok. If I can get superworms, how do I feed them to the leos? I hate crickets...

you can just put them in a low dish or u can drop them one at a time in front of the gecko.... up to you.
