Winter break (feb. 14-22) Field Herping, CA & TX. *SEVERE DUW*

    Hey guys,

Went out to the desert about two hours northeast of San Diego. Was a little cold but did find a hibernating lizard. He wasn't moving at all when I got him from under his rock, but he did go back under his rock when I put him back.

Can anyone identify this little guy? Haven't looked in the books yet...

    And San Diego zoo!

    Can you find it?!?!

    Galapagos Tortoises!

    Gharial!

And I also went to the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Found some really interesting stuff!

    Alligator mississipiensis, lots of them!

Yes, that's right, resting on top of a Red-Eared Slider.

First time I see a mother by a burrow AND protecting her babies. :

And a very cool find, a garter or ribbon snake species consuming a frog. At one point the frog was coming out and the snake was only holding on to it by the frog's foot.. got it down anyway.

    Thanks,
    MH

The first guy is likely Uta stansburiana. Should have had a little dark blotch near his armpit.

    Nice shots.

Look at the bottom of the picture... then when you find the lovely little serpent hiding in there, tell me.

All the way on the bottom right you can see the tail, and all the way on the bottom left you can see the eye of the Desert Horned Viper.
