POLL: When do you got to the vet?
Hey all,
I was just curious how often and when you guys take your herps to the vet!
I have never had a need to go to the vet, so I'm wondering how other people do it.
Thanks,
MH

Re: POLL: When do you got to the vet?
I only take my reptiles to the vet when one is showing signs of sickness or showing signs of a problem.

Re: POLL: When do you got to the vet?
When they are sick/acting funny/have funny stools.
I treat them all myself so other than that I go to get refills of Panacur.

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat

Re: POLL: When do you got to the vet?
Once a year the vet makes a house call and visits all the herps.
About a week in advance I e-mail her all of the feeding, pooping, general notes and weight records. The visit includes her checking them for lumps and bumps, looking in the mouth and the cloaca and collecting stool samples.
If one of the animals has a problem, we go for a visit. But each reptile sees the vet at least once a year.

Re: POLL: When do you got to the vet?
I take them to the magnificent Dr. Rossi within a week of getting them for general inspection, fecal check, and deworming.
Then after that, all my pets except the hamsters, rats, turtles, and fish get a yearly visit in January (my first ever pet dog's birthday - the rest of the pets just follow the schedule so it's easy for me to remember). Of course, if something is the matter, I take them then as well.

Re: POLL: When do you got to the vet?
i only GO to the vet when there's a problem, but i make sure to keep in close contact with him throughout the year... i've found that it's important to maintain a good relationship with a quality herp vet - they're hard to come by!

Re: POLL: When do you got to the vet?
Only when I have a problem I can't remedy.
And I get fecals done on each animal probably once every 6 months.

Re: POLL: When do you got to the vet?
I get vet checks and fecals done every year. Otherwise, when a problem shows up, and problems have really been showing up a lot this season.
First of all, my vet clinic requires that all registered animals be given annual checks and secondly, I am pretty new to the hobby and I would hate for some major problem to go unnoticed.
I also get fecals done on new animals. There are already too many parasites in my collection. I can't afford treatment for yet another kind being introduced. Also, if it's caught soon after you acquire the animal and you contact the breeder, some breeders (good breeders) would pay the vet bills for an animal that was given to you unwell.
Great idea for a poll.

Re: POLL: When do you got to the vet?
I only take any of my animals to the vet when something is wrong.
I do not deworm my snakes. I didn't know I needed to???
I am a very savvy and experienced dog keeper, so I rarely need a canine vet.
