Oddly enough, i don't mind this tell too bad. No extreme horror story. The kids seemed to have kept their cool when telling the story, no adding to the horrible snake wrap too much. I'd like someone from NY or with knowledge of the laws there to step in and confirm on the illegal issue.

According to witnesses, the boa was "staring and waiting for someone to eat." Gothamist has the roundup on the presumed escaped pet, including a nod to a theory they're floating over at the Daily News: that the four-foot killer reptile found its way into the home through the toilet. I like the part that says they can get up to 14 ft long. Don't they only go up to 8?

I can't find anything that says new york has a ban on boas and pythons. They seem pretty convinced there is.

They also seem to think that the snake came in through the toilet. I wouldn't put much stock in what these guys say about anything.

About the toilet thing....

A snake would only have to swim a few inches through the toilet's P-trap. The sewer line itself only has a bit of water along the bottom of it. Here's a cross section of a modern low-flow toilet to give you an idea of what the snake encountered.

i would say 20 boas a year loose in NYC is a pretty low number....

"According to witnesses" - those witnesses were seven year old boys!! Really, what has journalism come to nowadays?

It is a gorgeous snake, and I am glad that it's not being euthanized and is getting sent to a sanctuary! What a relief to hear a happy ending for once.
