    Cool Double Hets - Odds

I am looking into getting some Double Hets.

My question, of course, has to do with odds.

If I were to attempt to produce, say, hypothetically, Snows...

What would the odds be if I bred:

    • Axanthic Het for albino x Albino Het for Axanthic

    .vs
    • Double Het for Snow x Double Het for Snow

Any light that someone can shed is most appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Re: Double Hets - Odds

Sorry, I'm too lazy to work out the odds right now, but it's [obviously] better odds to use the visuals, Axanthic het albi x Albino het ax. Sorry lol. My minds nearly on shutdown for the night

    Ball Pythons:
1.0 Queenbee; 1.0 Spider; 1.0 Spider Het VPI Axanthic
1.0 Albino Cinny; 1.0 Albino Pin; 1.0 Butter Pastel
    0.1 Het Axanthic; 0.2 Albino; 0.1 Pied
    0.1 Pastave; 0.1 Pastel; 0.1 Butter
    0.1 Super Vanilla Mojave
    Others:
    1.0 Kahl Albino BCI
    1.0 Albino Anaconda Hognose
    Mammals:
    4.0 Kitties, 3.1 Doggos, 0.2 Horses

    Re: Double Hets - Odds

dblhet * dblhet would be 1/16

im not sure of visual + het * het + visual...1/8 maybe? all normal appearing offspring would be dbl het for snow though

    Re: Double Hets - Odds

    I think the odds of the visual/het x visual/het are actually 1/4. Odds for each component alone is 1/2 (i.e. visual axanthinc x het axanthic = 50% axanthic and 50% het axanthic) And 1/2 x 1/2 = 1/4

    Re: Double Hets - Odds

    From geneticswizard.com

Axanthic het albino X double het snow:
    12.5% Het. axanthic
    25% Double het snow
    12.5% Albino het. axanthic
    12.5% Axanthic,
    25% Axanthic, Het. albino
    12.5% Snow

Double het snow X double het snow:
    6.25% Normal
    12.5% Het. albino
    6.25% Albino
    12.5% Het. axanthic
    25% Double het snow
    12.5% Albino het. axanthic
    6.25% Axanthic
    12.5% Axanthic, het. albino
    6.25% Snow

    Hope this helps.

He wanted to know what Axanthic het Albino x Albino het Axanthic odds would be, not Axanthic het Albino x Double het Snow.

I don't know how to use geneticswizard =[

    I think it would be
    25% double het
    25% Axanthic het Albino
    25% Albino het Axanthic
    25% Snow

Right? Since visual x het = 50% visual, 50% het, and you'd overlap the two for the separate recessive genes, bringing it to 1/4 possibility for each outcome?

    Re: Double Hets - Odds

Another option, which in my opinion is much better, would be to buy and breed an albino het snow to an axanthic het snow. This would be a more expensive project to get into, but the odds are much better. All hatchlings would be either visuals or hets, no possibles here. Here are the odds:

Axanthic het albino X Albino het axanthic

    25% Double het snow
    25% Albino het. Axanthic
    25% Axanthic het. Albino
    25% Snow

Oh, sorry about that. I mis-read the post. It is still pretty early. lol. I posted those results above.

Geneticswizard.com is very easy to use. You just have to know how many genetic traits you are working with. You then type them into the correct boxes and select the radio buttons that correspond to the animal’s genetics. The options are: homo, het, or wild type for that trait.

    Hope this helps.
