RI question

Hi all

I think my python, Tequila, might have RI.
I have noticed today he is opening his mouth more than usual, I can hear a clicking sound when he breathes, and I think that just under his jaw it might be abit swollen (maybe am being paranoid about this). Also, he hasn´t eaten he´s last 3 feeds but I haven´t been too worried because he hasnt lost any weight.
Anyways, I´ll get him to the vet for a check up just in case. However, he is going to start to shed anytime (already got dull skin and bluish eyes).

Should I wait til he finishes his shed before taking him to the vet?

opening his mouth is just a way they help get there skin on there head ready to peel for a shed. but the clicking is definitely a sign of RI i would get your BP to a vet as soon as you can for a check up. i would boost up the humidity a tad help him with that shed and then take him to the vet. up the temps a bit too. to help if it is RI. i wouldnt take him to the vet until the have shed as this is a stressful time for them being partially vision impaired. but if he looks like he is becoming rapidly worse i would forgo waiting for the shed and get him in ASAP.

Temps are;
Cooler side: 80-82
Hot side: 91-94
Humidity: My hydrometer just broke so i havent been able to check (unfortunately I have to order most of the stuff online so I am waiting to receive the new one). But normally its always been around 60%. He´s always had good one piece sheds (including eyecaps) so i´ve never worried too much about the humidity.

He doesnt seem to have any mucus around his mouth nor have i seen him "star gazing".
The thing is that I accidently placed pine substrate last sunday when I cleaned his cage. (I stupidly picked up the wrong one from the store!) And i noticed last Thursday so i immediately removed it and he is currenly on paper towels.

As he is going to shed soon i´ll book the vet for the end of the week and have him checked just in case.

pine usually is ok if its kiln dried. that gets rid of the toxic vapors, correct me if im wrong of course. cedar is always a big no no. however i suppose the pine could be the issue if it was emitting the toxic vapors.

your doing the right think getting that vet appointment, if he worsens before you get to the appointment just take him in asap for an emergency visit.

kiln drying reduces the toxic fumes

it could also be sheding skin stuck around the nostrils but i would surely keep an eye on the snake and definately dont use pine or cedar

The package didn´t say anything if the pine was kiln dried so i removed it immediately.

I´ll keep u updated on how my boy goes.
