Sleeping in water bowl

My BP has a small problem with mites. I have cleaned and disinfected the cage 4 times in the past week. I also used some Mite Off on the cage, but not the snake (dont think that is a good idea), while I wait for delivery of a can of PAM to knock out the problem for good.

My concern is that he is spending every minute of the day in his water bowl. Otherwise he seems fine. He ate last night, is behaving normally, but has been in his water bowl for about 6 days now. I clean and refill it every day. Is staying is the water this long normal? I realize this is the snakes way of ridding himself of the nasty pests, but another issue is that he seems cool when I take him out of the water, and I do not want him to get an RI. Ideas?

Well if you have no life lie me you can pick them off one by one. I did that for several hours when I brought one of my boas home. She didnt have too many but I figured I would get rid of any and all i saw first then put her in the PAM treated cage.

like sg1trogdor said try and get as many as you can see. this will help till the pam gets there. also change your substrate to paper towels. that way you can monitor the little buggers

Just trying to answer your direct question first. He wants to soak and you are worried about his temps. Add a second water bowl close to the heat source. he can stay submerged but still thermo regulate. But really the main concern should be eliminating the mites as I am sure you are aware. I have never used PAM but a lot of people swear by it. My personal preference is 5% Seven Dust available at any garden supply store. I put about 1/2 cup in the bottom of a small snake bag or pillow case. Do a little shake-n-bake action and then let it sit for 30 minutes. After that I remove the snake, rinse them off in the sink with tepid water. You can put a little in a sock and dust it around the edges/corners of the enclosure. Retreat the snake and cage in 14 days to get any eggs that hatch out. Make sure you give them fresh water though, the Seven dust is dehydrating. I have used this method for over twenty years and it has always worked. Good luck. Jeff
