itchy, rashes after handeling bp

after i handle my bp i notice that a little later i become itchy and small rashes will develop on my skin. i thought it might be just me but it happend to my girl today after handling him? what could this possibly be??

What kind of substrate are you keeping your snake on? You could be having an allergic reaction to it. Also how often do you clean it, you could have pee or poo on you... Feces and ammonia do not do the skin any good. Your snake may have mites that could be biting you as well. There are all kinds of things that could be happening.

im using eco earth and ive only had him for a week but that used to be the tank for a small tegu. i did clean it out pretty good. and how do i check for mites i really cant afford a vet right now my dog just ran me 1200 bucks "carecredit"

Heck personally I don't even know if mites will bite humans as I have had no experience with them myself.

There is info on external parasites if it's that.

As for the substrate; Are you allergic to coconuts or have you ever had issues with coconut husks? If not then you could probably count that out.

I would suggest that in future handlings you wash your hands right after your handle your snake, this should stop this from happening again, but if you notice your snake laying in it's water dish then it could be mites, in which case you could probably find some mite killer at your local pet store of you could order some online.

im allergic to fruits! so thats might be it ill look around for a mite killer any recommendations?

Well that link has the two main mite killers. I would suggest picking up a bottle/can no matter what (as a just-in-case).

It is important to read and follow the directions exactly - if you do then you should be fine.
