My New baby. Ivory Ball Python

thank you all for your input but I have a question concerning vibrations. I have a pretty powerful audio system that is in the same room as the snake (my room) and I am concerned that maybe the bass from the subwoofer will hurt/annoy her.
here is the setup i currently have.




what are your opinions about this?

Its not to the point where everything rattles. Its just a decent thump of bass.

I have my BP in a room where we have music on often and I have not noticed and differences in her behaviour or feeding response because of it. Although, each snake is different. If your snake isn't feeding on a regualr basis, it might be time to move the tank or turn the music down.

okay, well she did just move into the house on monday so i guess ill monitor her and see if it affects her. but thanks for that.

I use cypress mulch for all of my animals, and they love it!

It keeps humidity in the perfect range, as well as gives them something to burrow in if they feel the need. It also helps during sheds.

as your snake grows, you will need to change that enclosure. A 20 gallon long aquarium or similar ( Vision enclosures, or Boaphile or Animal plastics) will work for a subadult animal, and then you would have to upgrade again as the snake outgrows it.

okay i went ahead and bout a bag of "Zoo Med - Premium Repti Bark, Natural Reptile Bedding". I hope its fine for her. I did notice that its a little strong on the odor. Is this stuff fine for her?

As far as vibrations. I know I am neurotic when it comes to my snakes, but they keep their bodies and faces against the floor of their enclosures, and all those vibrations are going to be felt by them.

I would try to minimize it if you can.

Guess it depends on what you mean. I.e. I had my first BP in my office. I had a system in there, but I did not crank the music and rumble walls... my neighbour on the other hand, a DJ, would rattle my walls, and he had the sickliest looking boa I have ever seen. It looked stressed out and an absolute mess.

Other things going on mind you.

But do what you can to minimize tank vibrations if you can. Do not let the tank or the furniture that it is one touch the wall, if your speakers touch the wall. Little things like that.

It may be worth starting a thread in the husbandry section if you want help setting up an ideal enclosure for your snake though. Or to read through many of the stickies and pre-existing threads.

A move for a BP can be very stressful, so you do want to ensure it is a smooth transition for her.

I hated Repti Bark. It was extremely dusty and lumpy. My BPs would have pink spots and dents on their bellies from their weight resting on the hard lumpy pieces. It also was weird about humidity (not very absorbent), and doesn't hold heat well due to the large air pockets.

I use cypress mulch (double-milled is best), or shredded aspen, both of which are much better at holding humidity and warmth. They are also softer for the snakes to lay on (especially the aspen). I think they both smell pretty good. The aspen is easier to see poo on, especially if you've got a small snake that's making small poos. As was previously mentioned, you can buy these bulk for pretty cheap from pet stores, farm supply stores, and lawn and garden stores.
