To "Het", or not to "Het", that is the question
Im starting to come to an end of my short term spending and all but one of my bp's (1.0 albino) are co-dom's/dom's.
So, the question is this; If you had about 3K to spend, would you...
1) Just buy an awesome pair of 1.1 of piebalds?
2) Or just by recessive males of various types and start several projects; say 1.0 piebald, 1.0 genetic stripe and perhaps 1.0 Axanthic, breed them to normals, and then use the hets to start breeding the visual forms?
I am sort of torn as which way to go; the "instant gratification" side of me says get the piebald pair and take the guessing game out of it, but the "diversify" side of me says a variety might be more fulfilling in the long term.

Re: To "Het", or not to "Het", that is the question
Well this is just me, but I bought an adult male het pied from the dixie show a few months ago and I plan to start a five year project to create a pied. Time doesn't matter to me. But if I had the money I'd just buy it lol.

Re: To "Het", or not to "Het", that is the question
Well... most people do it this way.
Use the 100% het male and make poss hets.
Keep back the poss hets, grow them up, and then when the time comes to breed them, buy a visual male. That way its very easy to determine who is a het out of the possies rather than het to poss het...

I agree with the last post if time is no matter to you then get more for your money, but you coudl always just buy the pieds and produce some pieds sell them and use that money for your het project in a few years that way you can do both!!
Cheers!

If I was looking to drop 3K I think there are far more stable projects to get in on. LA's, Black Axanthics, Tri-Stripe, Deserts, ect

if you get a male pied and a het pied you will be able to produce pieds and hets. keep in mind if you are going to start selling them that you may have more luck moving a het than a visual pied.
so, my opinion is get a visual and a het of the morphs you want to produce. that way you can produce visuals and spred you money a little further.

I do. I would just need to get either a het female, or a visual if I had the balls. (pun intended)

Re: To "Het", or not to "Het", that is the question
Purchase a male pied (for example) and a couple female hets of the same morph.
Your odds of producing said visible recessive morph is 50% per egg.
That seems like a great project to me.
All normal looking offspring will be 100% het for pied and if you are willing to offer a guarantee of genetics and write up paperwork on it you should have no problems moving the extra babies out.
Then take the money from those babies and buy more visible morph males and their respective female hets.
Once you have a few female visibles of breeding size you can start crossing them into other dominant morphs and make some wicked combos in a relatively short period of time.
