    They definitely aren't as friendly as balls. They do tame down but each snake is different. Most will hiss and puff up when you pick them up, some will strike at you with a closed mouth. When they tame down they are great but I still feel that Balls are WAY tamer.

    As far as size, Google some photos of people holding their Bloods. They are MUCH, MUCH larger than Ball Pythons.

    I don't want to scare you away. I love them and they are great and impressive snakes. Its like having a huge snake without it being too huge.

    They just aren't Balls.

    Sumatran Short tails, are the smaller of the group of "Bloods" ( They are not Really BLOOD pythons, but are also known as "Black Bloods")

    They get quite a bit larger than ball pythons Girth wise...., but not an unmanageable size at all. They have much higher humidity requirements, but again, NOT hard to maintain if you pay attention.

    my Sumatran boy has never hissed or struck at me. no matter how i pick him up. ( even buried in the mulch) Hes a great snake and every shed he just gets so much prettier! I think they will be just like all other snakes * from the animals i have seen in person* and some will have a tude, while others, are perfectly tolerant to let you poke at them.

    They are different, much heavier built snakes.

    I would recommend to handle a large one first to know if they are for you or not and if you decide this is the snake for you (after doing your research and getting to handle one) than buy one from a reputable breeder.

    I have to agree as well. They can be loud, hissing really loud when you pick them up, give you the stink eye and stare you down, but unless you get an adult that has never had much interaction, they are generally quite calm and won't strike.

    I agree with that, they're pretty easy going if you don't mess with them, and 95% of the time, the hissing is a bluff.

    There is a nack to holding a Blood, slow movements away from the head, in my experience they're rather head shy, and would be more inclined to snap at something coming towards their head (wouldn't you?!)

    Here's me with an Adult Male Borneo Short-Tail, I'm 5'8" for an idea of size;

    Gloves are a precaution more than anything else, I have no shame!
