In this case would you sell some babies as BEL, possible het spider and possible het pastel or does anyone really have a clue if the genes would shine thru the lucy.

that question had me almost say you can't have het pastels or het spiders but then i though.....if its a bel that came from a spider cross would it make spiders???
that is a really good question!!!

Re: lesser spider X mojave pastel
Spiders are dominant and pastels are co-dominant so there would be no poss hets, and the BEL would be just a BEL.

Re: lesser spider X mojave pastel
Ok, so spiders are dominant, meaning the gene for spider would be present but does the BEL mask the genes that are present? So the spider gene would be there and genetically it would be a spider but the BEL would not allow it to show?
For example, in basenjis (dogs) the colors brindle and black are each dominant. If the gene for brindle is present the dog will be brindle. So a red dog x with a brindle is going to give you 50/ 50 reds and brindles. A red dog x with a black dog will give you 50/ 50 reds and blacks. But if you breed a brindle to a black, you can get brindles and blacks (and reds if both parent carries red). They will visually be either brindle, black, or red, depending on if either parent has the gene for red. But SOMEtimes, the brindle gene appears on a black dog. You cannot SEE the brindle because brindle is a pattern gene and you can't see the pattern on black. So what really is happening in the litter is this: The brindles are RED dogs with brindle pattern over the top. The blacks are black without brindle OR black WITH brindle. Both genes are dominant so both are expressed. You just cannot see the brindle patterning. Is it possible that the BEL gene is actually masking pattern or color beneath it just as the black does to the brindle?
The black dog with the brindle gene will produce blacks, brindles, and reds (and possibly recessive colors too if they are in there but that is a whole nother ball of wax.)

Re: lesser spider X mojave pastel
The BEL is just the super form of the mojave x lesser. If the spider hit on one of those genes you would get a spider mojave or a lesser bee. The spider gene could not hit in the super form.

Re: lesser spider X mojave pastel
Right I understand that it is the super form of the mojave, etc. However, does anyone actually know how the BEL gene expresses in the animal? If you have a snake that carries the genes mojave and mojave and spider, are you saying that the spider basically trumps the super mojave? What happens when the spider is bred ? Does it have two copies of the mojave and thus only produces mojaves? (No normals?) It's not clear to me if you are saying that it is not possible to have an animal with two copies of the mojave gene plus a copy of the spider gene or if you are saying that it is possible to HAVE the two copies of mojave plus the spider but that it would only express the spider.

Re: lesser spider X mojave pastel
Look i already figured this out months ago when I imagined breeding 2 fireflies together.
And here is what I came up with: DON'T EVEN BOTHER DOING IT. Just avoid the scenario as best as possible, especially if you will be selling. People may want a specific snake so they buy your BEL and breed it to something, they end up getting something with all these other morphs that they didn't want. You may think that it would be a pleasant surprise but in reality it can be very aggravating.
Just don't let this happen when you are making BELs, or if you are then you need to make sure it will always be 100% hets, no other possibilities (aka super pastel mojave x lesser or something similar).
