    Re: Baytril?

He'll need more than a week of shots to fully clear up a respiratory infection and to prevent it from recurring. If the snake shows improvement within 3-4 injections, then the Baytril will work. If the snake doesn't show improvement or it is only a slight improvement, the vet needs to change antibiotics because they aren't going to work.

Also, to prevent Baytril burns/scars, add a slight amount of sterile saline along with the Baytril before you inject it. This will distribute the medication and won't cause irritation like straight Baytril would. You can get the saline from your vet.

When you give the injection, give it in the muscle on either side of the spine. Stick the needle in at about a 20-30 degree angle, pull back on the plunger to make sure you're not in a vein, then inject. As you pull the needle out, put your finger over the hole and rub the injection site. This will spread the meds around and will close the injection hole, that way the meds don't leak out.
