Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?

I will probally give one of my first snakes that I will have hatched to a friend of mine. He's like a brother to me and will come over and check Dante out every time he comes over. My family really doesn't mind snakes except one aunt.

1.0 BP VPI Pastel - Dante
0.1 BP Spider- Name Unknown (not shipped yet)
    Hopefully another one soon!

I said no, but if I know that they would be a good keeper and have really wanted one, yes.

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?

I said no because I expect something. Not always money but they must show me they can care for them I just gave away 2 torts last month but drilled the poor guy on how they would be cared for. Had him do research work before I considered placing them. He also had to buy supplies for them.
At the other extreme, if I feel someone is not a good home I won't sell no matter what. I actually had someone get angry with me because I was given a snake that he knew I was working on placing. I refused to even sell it to him at a good price. Too many times this person told me of snakes or lizards dying in his care for any number of reasons. Whether I bought the snake or it was a rescue it doesn't deserve to be put in a bad situation.

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?

I am new to the hobby and know how tough it is to get started. If I was breeding I would definantly give them away to help some one who wants to get started. But again this is not a business venture for me so I can afford to give them away. But I am not breeding anything so maybe in the future.

I have given away snakes for free. And I have had people offer or give me snakes for free.

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?

I gave my younger (18 year old) brother a baby bloodred corn snake. I only paid $20 for him at an expo and my brother was always admiring my snakes, especially my corn, so I decided to give him the little guy (along with the tank, heat pad and access). I gave him a good lesson in snake care though and I still supervise the feeding, cleaning etc but he's doing very well

I don't think I would ever just give one away to a complete stranger though

I said no because I've never produced anything to give away lol. I would do so given proper husbandry and such no problem. Also to hear that most of you would/have given away a snake tells loads about this community --Josh

I agree. Reading through I see you all are about spreading the ball python love. On some other sites I have met some people that are all about the money but not here on BP.net. You guys are all great!

Re: Would anyone else here be willing to give away free snakes?

I have and would do it again. I also have on some occassions rescued some from non-optimum conditions, rehabbed, and re-homed some too. It's a great feeling when you know they're going to a good home.
