    Water Dragon Question

My mother is wanting to get a chinese water dragon, Yet we are worried about the enclosure. The person we will be getting him from, says he has a 65 gallon Reptarium, We were wanting to know if it is ok to have a full screened cage with a water dragon. If so, How do you keep heat and humidity, how would you accomplish this with a house that stays around 60-70. She says she would eventually like to build her own cage. She wanted to use, Melamine board. on the top sides and back and screen in the front. Would this be alright with all the water. If not what would be the proper material to use to build the cage. Any answers would be great. Does anybody have any specs. on the way a tank should properly be built.

P.S. I know this is a Python thread, but I trust most of you!!!

You, your mother and any lizard you wind up with will be far better off if you get your equipment properly set up prior to getting the lizard.

You can make almost any box work with the right attachments but I would highly recommend getting something specifically built for reptiles.

They don't have to have enough water to swim in, a bowl is sufficient. They do tend to smash against things like the sides of a clear cage.

Do some more research, go to a few reptile stores if you can or maybe a show.

They're really neat creatures, not hard to keep, but need more from the keeper than you seem to have so far.

The person we are getting it from, Has all the lighting and everything for the cage. We have researched all over the place, We just can not find what is best. He has the waterfall, and all the accessories for the tank, we just wanted to make sure that it was alright to have a screen cage.

In that case, yes you can use a screen cage.

If the heat and/or humidity are not correct you can put plastic over sections of the screen until you have corrected the problem. You could also use glass instead of plastic.

Put up some pics when you get it set up. I almost got one yesterday but I didn't have the tank set up so I passed.
