There isn't a whole lot they can get from that. Name, address, phone number is about it.

They did say that user names and accounts passwords were also taken. Not as bad as credit card info or SS numbers, but they could still make some trouble for you with potential employers. The hackers obviously thought they had something to gain from it or they wouldn't have done it.

Not so. Most of the hackers hack just to prove that they can. There was a fraternity/sorority in my college in the Philipines that required you to hack something to gain entry (their version of hazing). There was no internet then - just modems or local networks - so it was much more difficult.

The I Love You virus that plagued the US a few years ago was created by this kid who thought it was fun.

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

I do understand those examples. I'm sure a lot of people do hack for personal satisfaction or notoriety among their peers. I don't know I would accept "Most of the hackers hack just to prove that they can." as a fact though.
