How long do you give a young male a chance to breed?

Sorry about the title if it reads a little confusing. I didn't know how to phrase it.

I have a younger male pastel that turned a year last fall. He has always been a picky eater and is only around 600 grams. I have paired him with an adult female and for the most part he is not interested. (Can't really say the female is either) I have accepted the fact that he just isn't ready yet and am ok with this. My question is on the female:
Is there a window of opportunity with a female during the breeding season? Meaning if I keep trying with my young male and he does not breed her, will she eventually go through the process and end up absorbing the folicles if she does not have viable sperm?
I would hate to lose an opportunity with her and I do not want to use multiple males. (I really want to see (and know) this males offspring)
So . . . would there be a time where I should stop with my small male and use another one? (I know, this is essentially using multiple males, but there is a good chance he has not bred her.)

The above all makes sense to me, I hope it does for you

    Thanks

    Jim

    Yes.

If he is not interested, and he is not even producing sperm plugs (is he???) then it is a waste of time to try and breed him with her. He just won't do it.

You have to pop them out...

And I'm sure there is a link, but I can't access anything to share right now.

Ralph Davis has lots of vids on you tube on how to pop, or you could just search poping ball python(s) and get tons of vids.

here is one of the vids
    YouTube - 08 - Phantom "plugs"

I didn't want the vid to come up...just the link....I don't know how to work this thing

Sorry, I forgot to include that important piece. Yes, he is (to the best of my knowledge/capabilities) is producing plugs.

I am more concerned about losing an opportunity with the female (and another male).

    Thanks Heather

If you have another female that is actually receptive try him on her. Because maybe the female your putting him with is not ready.

I have a yearling lesser at about 600+ grams producing tons of sperm and he is interested in 5 out of 6 of my females. The 6th one is on the small side(1200 grams).

Usually in that situation we would wait until we feel follicles in the female and once we do we choose another male if the one she has been with isnt breeding her. Sometimes it will take until the female has follicles before a male will breed her though so dont give up.
