Eye problem after shed!
Hi,
I got my BP in december (I believe) and when I got it it was in a crappy glass tank with a heat pad IN THE CAGE and a huge half log as a hide. It was shedding when I got it and it was a horrible shed, but the head part of the shed was lost. Anyway, the eyes looked weird; I could barely see the pupil and there seemed to be a fold or crack of some sort in the eye cap.
Anyway, I tried to remove it with some tape (very gently) but it didn't come off. So now he shed again (perfect shed btw) but his eyes still look weird
His eyes do seem to be a little bit more transparent, but I still see the fold like thing. Anybody know what this is?
I'll post pictures later, but they're quite bad... does anything come to mind already?

Re: Eye problem after shed!
Dehydrated bp's often have eyes that look kinda wrinkly. Are you giving him a large bowl to soak in and keeping his humidity up?

Well I don't have a huge water bowl but he doesn't like soaking; or at least, when I gave him a pre-shed soak he hated it.
Humidity is 50-60 normally, around 70 during shed.

Re: Eye problem after shed!
I would put him/her in a tub with an inch or so of warm water... put the lid on it and leave the snake for 40 minutes... it could be that the snakes eyes didn't shed due to poor conditions.
Remove the sanke and gently with a soft rag or cloth rub (very gently) the eyes... it should remove the old skin (if that's what it is).
could you post some pics?

Never use tape. Please never use tape. So much damage can be done using tape even if you use much care.
It may be retained eye caps, or sometimes the eye's just look that way.
Also soaking before the shed can cause problems.
Do not worry to much about it, if it is retained eye caps they may come off with the next shed.
If they eye caps remain in the next shed seek the help of a more experienced herper in your area or take him to a herp vet around you.
It is better to use to much caution then to cause damage. I may be incorrect so if any one has any corrections please help.

Re: Eye problem after shed!
I wet a cutip sawbby, and then i rub the dry skin around the eye. Works pretty well.
I'm not afraid of snakes, because I got Balls!

Re: Eye problem after shed!
The eye caps came off. They're in the shed.
I'm pretty sure I didn't do any damage with the tape, because he didn't react to it and after that I didn't notice a change in behavior.
Thanks for the advice though, Hoax.
I will post pictures tonight...

I would not recommend this, you could injure your snake and you don’t want that I am sure.
You have two options
# 1 Retained eye cap it happen it this is the case place your BP in a pillow case with a damp warm towel and let it slither through it (It should do the trick) if not you can try again, if it still does not come off, just wait until next shed for it to come of, in the meantime make sure your BP as proper humidity
#2 Dented eye which is due to low humidity in that case just bump your humidity.

Re: Eye problem after shed!
I don't think it's a retained eye cap because he just had a perfect shed and his eyes still look dented; although it seems a little less than before.
His humidity is 50-60 so I don't think that's it... maybe he just has some eye damage...? And I guess it'll go away after a couple of sheds since it already appears to be less.
