    Re: quick question about humidity

    Hi,

Can you tell us a little more about your enclosure?

Is it a tub, fish tank or custom cage? what kind of heating are you using? Have you treated any mesh lids with the tinfoil and tape (on the outside please )?

How and where are you measuring your humidity?

    Re: quick question about humidity

its a 55 gallon aquarium.. ive got a 100 watt night light and a 60 watt day light.. i run both during the day n just the red one at night. ive got the daylight over the water bowl. and ive not got tin foil ive got blankets covering the top. its a screen mesh lid. i know i need tin foil on top. i just havent got none right now. casper is currently dealin with R.I. and is starting to go into shed so what would be the proper humidity? ive been told lower humidity for RI and higher for shedding. hes got both right now so what do i do?

    Re: quick question about humidity

    Hiya

Well I can tell you this that heat lamps suck out the humidty so your better off getten a UTH(under tank heater) with a thermostate so you can controle the heat. I have them on all my snake cages and i also have lights but those are for when it gets too cold give them extra heat if needed. And if my humidity drops i spray the cage. Coco soft is a good substrate to hold humidity as well which i use on all my snakes as well. So if you can afford to buy a uth big enough for ur 55. I also cover all my cages with towels we dont use anymore that helps hold in the humidtiy and heat as well. U can damp the towel if need but i have never had too. Hope this helped some and good luck.

    Re: quick question about humidity

Yeah if u didnt have them lights u will have humidity. If its warm enough in ur house durning the day u can shut the lights off. U can also get some peat moss or some kind of moss they sell at the pet stores and put it in a tupperwear bowl type thing drill a hole/or some holes in it and that can help with humidity and shedding as well just a few more ideas until u get a uth.

    Re: quick question about humidity

Np just put a damp towel or towels over the whole cage that should up the humidity some try doing it everyday if and when they dry. Other than that i dont know what else to tell ya those are all the options i have in my head lol.
