    Savannah monitor...

We bought a savannah monitor on Jan. 2nd at the show in Pomona,Ca. He/She is about a foot long. It seems to have a good temperment, he hasnt tried to bite, tail whip or hiss at us but we cant seem to get him to eat. I was told that you could use low fat can dog food to get them started and ive put meal worms and crickets in his tank but i dont think he has really eaten them or the dog food. Ive also tried offering him pinkies a few times and he doesnt want anything to do with them. We also tried raw egg yolk with dog food. Does anyone have any other suggestions on what we could try? Please let me know if you do. We also want to build him a big enclosure so if any one has any suggestions about what to use and how to build it please let me know. Thanks

Come here little guy. You're awfully cute and fluffy but unfortunately for you, you're made of meat

    Re: Savannah monitor...

I had the same problem with my sav... Boil 1 or 2 eggs. Let them cool, the take one and chop it into bite size piecs (make sure you take off the shell), and take the other one and mash it up (make sure you take off the shell!), and mix the mashed up one into the dog food. put the chopped pieces on a paperplate on the floor and set him next to it ad he will begin to eat the egg. As he is eating it, put some of the mashed egg and dog food mixture into what he's eating. Slowly start adding less egg to the dog food after a few feedings. Dont feed him dog food everyday though, make sure you mix in meal worms, and dead crickets with some dog food. And also feed him pinkies once in a while and when he gets bigger maybe a small mouse once in a while. But remember to feed your sav a variety of foods, research some healthy and nutritious foods for savs on google...

I would say that there is something wrong with his/her enclosure, what lights etc are you running?
