    3 kinds of keepers

my philosphy is that some keepers live in boxes others in feilds and others live in fantasy world. The ones in boxes only will appriciate or listen to those who have the simple small common snakes that are not dangerous and yell at those who have the venomous ones, the big ones , the rare ones. Those who live in fantasy land will only take the venomous ones the big ones the rare ones for their own amusmentbut not the animals enjoyment. Those who live in feilds want to show the venomus ones he big ones the rare ones. They want to own them for the fasination of them and to see what they can do to improve prior knowledge of the animal. I live ina feild I wnt to show these animals I want to improve knowledge. I was gonna get a MBK but instead I got heralds snake. sometimes keepers in boxes dont get along with keepers in feilds or in fantasy land. Keepers in boxes get along well with those in boxes but sometimes the peope in boxes dont want to listen. As for the 18 year old kid who know nothing about snakes and goes to a show and buys an albino monacled cobra as a first herp!

i get it and i totally agree. The one part i don't understand is the last sentence? It's like your trying to tell us something and don't finish what you are saying, or what your were implying isn't being implied. Are you calling the 18yo who buys the cobra the "fantasy" type and saying the boxed keeper doesn't get along whit him?

    Re: 3 kinds of keepers

I firmly believe that NO ONE who has never kept snakes should own a venomous snake as the first one. Not if you're 18, not if you're 45. You need experiance to dealw ith venomous species, and without it, you are a liability not only to yourself, and to any friends or bystanders, but also to the herp community as a potential for bad press.
I also don't feel that keepers fall into neat catagories. I meet very few folks who only keep common species, and don't think others should keep rare ones. I don't meet many who keep rare species and distain keepers of common species.
It sounds like you are trying to set up a argument, so that you can point at the members here as "keepers in boxes" and crow that you are a far-seeing exciting keeper. I think you are dead wrong in your opinion. But you're entitled to it.
Most of the members here seem to love reptiles in general. I don't see many folks here who distain the keeping of rare snakes nor the keeping of venomous snakes BY RESPONSIBLE KEEPERS.
Of course, all of this is MY own opinion, which I also am entitled to have. I love my reptiles, love all reptiles, and despite the fact that I do not currantly keep venomous, have no issue with responsible keepers who do. I keep one small fairly uncommon snake, and would love to keep some of the more rare species one day, and admire those who keep rare species themselves.
Labeling people rarely works, and just shows that you yourself are close-minded in attempting to put everyone else into a box, while you stand outside it. The truth is that you've put yourself into a cubbyhole.
