Since a number of us have had that heart stopping moment when we realize our snakes have somehow gotten out and are missing. I thought I'd share this story with you.
I got a call today at work from my roommate who works nights - "Did you leave the snake cage door open for some reason?" Evidently it didn't close all the way and lock and my female het vpi axanthic had found a way out. I rushed home between meetings to try and find her. Fearing that she would crawl behind the couch and get caught in one of the mouse traps we have there.
First place I checked was her cage - definitely missing. I pull back the couch to check there. The trap was empty but I spotted something at the top of the couch. It was a gecko of some sort.No idea how it got there, who's it was, how long it has been in the house.
After catching and putting the gecko into a container safely out of the way the search for my missing snake was back on. An hour later still no luck and I had to get back to work to make my next meeting. I snake proofed as many routes out of that room as I could find and was putting away the flashlight when I open the closet I had checked 20 mins before to find her crawling around the floor.
So one happy ending (found my missing escapee) and one very surprising ending (found a gecko I didn't know I had). I hope everyone who has that heart stopping moment when they find out their snake is missing has as happy an ending as this one. I'll post pics up later when I get off work.
