    Re: Need help

    Ok ,

So if I breed a 100% het pied/50%het albino to a 100%het pied/100%het albino what are my chances.

I am still trying to figure out what does it mean 50% het??

only half of the snakes have the possibility of having both het??
or all the snakes have 50% of the albino gene and at some point will produce one?

Here is my morph list I currently own as of now,

    males....
    pied
    black pastel
    lesser
    blonde pastel
    normal

    females....
    mojave
    albino
    spider
    pinstripe
    100% het pied / 50% het albino
    normal

    Re: Need help

    Hi,

The 50% (and 66% etc ) means it has that chance it inherited the gene at all from the parent.

The animal itself is either 100% hey or 0% het - but we have no way of knowing which it is until it has been proved through breeding.

But the chance of it inheriting the gene depends on the genetic makeup of the parents - so we look at the paring and get a breakdown of the percentage of the normal looking offspring that (statistically speaking ) should have inherited it.

    Its a little easier if I use recesives with no visual hets to explain it from here on in;

So 100% het to normal = all normal looking animals of which 50% should carry the gene according to statistical probability. Now that means all of them could be carriers or none of them and all shades inbetween. But nobody can tell so they are labeled as 50%hets.

Now 100%hets to 100%hets = 1/4 visually homozygous and 3/4 normal looking animals. Of those 3/4 normal animals two thirds of them should be hetrozygous so they are all labeled as 66%hets.

Does that make it any clearer or have I made it worse?

7 adult Royals (2.5), 1.0 COS Pastel, 1.0 Enchi, 1.1 Lesser platty Royal python, 1.1 Black pastel Royal python, 0.1 Blue eyed leucistic ( Super lesser), 0.1 Piebald Royal python, 1.0 Sinaloan milk snake 1.0 crested gecko and 1 bad case of ETS. no wife, no surprise.

    Re: Need help

Yes this totally cleared it up..
    sweet..
    I now get it.
So the only way to find out if my 50% het albino is to either breed her with an albino or something that is 100% het for albino and pray that i get a visual.

    Thanks you
