    My New Guyana!

This is Suki, my october '08, Guyana red-tail baby girl. I got her from Bill Cagel yesterday morning at the repticon show in GA. I'm so glad to have her, she is gorgeous. I found out that the batteries in the digital were dead on the way to the show, but i managed to snap a few pics on the way home with my handy-dandy phone.

    What do you think?

you can see the mouse in her tummy. she feels so fragile.

what do you think? i love her color!

    Re: My New Guyana!

thanks you guys, i'm already in love. she hasn't come out of the aspen yet. she curls up on the cool side and hasn't moved. i've had a real time trying to get the temps right, ended up getting my first dimmer switch. nifty little thing. i was worried about how i was goign to keep the temps up at night so i went ahead and put foil over the bottom of my heat lamp so light doesn't get in, you have to turn the dimmer switch up quite a bit, but besides the heat lamp being super hot to the touch, it seems to be working fine. basking area has been about 95, ambient is 85, and the cool spot where she has been chilling is around 75-76. should i bump it up?

    Talking Re: My New Guyana!

Beautiful. How big will she get? I love the look of that one. Is she nice? I still have a lot to learn. ALl these species/sub species confuses the hell out of me. I need to go to the bookstore and peruse the snake books ASAP.

all species basically boil down to bci or bcc. try reading the "Boa FAQ'a" when you click one of the boa categories. it really helped me. it says my bcc boa will get 7.5' - 10'. a little scary in retrospect, but we will grow together and get used to one another. as long as i work with my litle girl she will not grow up to be a scary biting monster.

her temperment has been mellow so far. she's only 2 months old. she hasn't been doing much since i got her, just letting her settle in. she's not as jerky or nervous as my ball, very fluid. i can't wait to see her feeding response, i hear it's totally different. Bill told me to wait till she poops to feed her again.

not sure of the average temperment of these snakes, i'm still doing some research. i planned to get a boa at the repticon show, but not a bcc, i also had never looked into this particular species. i'm still learning about her.

as far as learning more about boas, i would just go to kingsnake.com and go down the list of boas looking at the pictures and how much they run. at first they all look the same, but you will warm up to a certain look. i am pretty partial to the suriname's and peruvians. i love the clean look and good contrast.
