Just a quick question on cage size
Hi all,
I'm having a divided 36x24x15 AP cage come in this week.
Will half of that (18x24x15) be sufficient an adult male? I know it would be a little small of females but do I also need larger for males?
Thanks for all the input,
MH

Re: Just a quick question on cage size
It is a little oddly shaped, since it is divided, but as for floorspace, I think it would be allright, as long as it isnt a monster male.

Re: Just a quick question on cage size
i would think that it would be small for an adult, but would definately last awhile for a growing baby.

Re: Just a quick question on cage size
I have some of my adult males in 15qt tubs and they thrive. That's a little bit bigger than a 32qt tub floor space, so why not. Plenty of room.

Re: Just a quick question on cage size
I think that's more than enough room for an adult male. Like Satanic mentioned, it's more floor space than a 32qt tub (which many people use for subadults and adult males) Even if he is a larger male he should be fine. Just as long as he's not a huge male. My 02 boy is four and a half feet long and I have to keep him in his tank because my tubs are too small for him.

Re: Just a quick question on cage size
What size of adult male are we talking about? People tend to call the male an adult as soon as they breed which for some that is around 500 or less grams. My stud male who is over 2000 grams needs a little more space than most males. He is actually in my CB-70 rack. With his growth rate over the last summer I think he may actually make 2500 grams this coming summer as long as we continue to conservatively breed him this winter and not over breed to the point he starts loosing weight.

Re: Just a quick question on cage size
He's no monster yet, he's less than 2 years old.
What kind of hides should I use, as some may too large to fit two.
What do you say to a slab of corkbark that goes from the warm to the cold side, so it's a big gradient?
There probably won't be too much room and it is quite enclosed...

Ball pythons that use hides prefer hides that are on the tight side. We use the black plastic hides to the ones that require hides. Surprisingly some like the small one to the point that they are lifting it off the bottom of the cage before they are ready to step up in size.

I agree. I have a large mojo male who is over 2000g and is in a 3x2x1 RBI cage. I have another male who is quickly catching up to that weight as well. He is really cramped in his 32qt tub.

If he gets too big I'll move him to a larger AP cage
