    Bad Aim?

When saw my BP at the show I asked the vendor if it ate f/t and he said no they feed it live but I still got the BP because it was to good of a deal to pass up ($25 and he could be het for piebald).

Today I tried to feed him an f/t and he actually went after it pretty fast after I started to shake the mouse but he missed so I shook the mouse again and my snake went after it but missed again. I took the mouse out after he missed the second time because he was getting stressed out.

Is it normal for baby BPs to miss their prey?

I have a 250 gram spider that has that problem, he's a good eater but a really bad aim. I feed live simply because I get tired of watchin his iasco for an hour...lol once he gets it boy does he eat.

I call him Mr Wobbles, he has the worste wobbles....ironically hes one of my favorite ball pythons. And the only one thats ever Bit me.

    Re: Bad Aim?

Happens all the time. Not something to worry about. One thing you can try doing is warming up the mouse, once it's been thawed out, by either setting it under a heat lamp for a few minutes or using a hair dryer to warm it. Not too hot, you don't want it to explode or burn the snake but BPs rely fairly heavily on their heat sensing pits to find their prey and with a nice warm prey item he should have less problems zoning in on it.

But yeah, BPs do have pretty crappy aim most times. I can't even tell you how many times I've had them try to hit the rat and wind up biting the tongs or just missing entirely. Don't give up right away either, if he's striking that means he's hungry. Maybe try just leaving in the enclosure for him to take on his time, I've seen that one work once in a while. Just leave it a few inches in front of his hide and he should come out and take it eventually.

    Re: Bad Aim?

are you warming it up enough for him specifically the head area. i dont really have to shake mine.

as for the sipder if hes got the wobbles that bad it probally isnt a good idea to feed it live.

and a strike doesnt always mean hes hungry!

    Re: Bad Aim?

Once the mouse was defrosted I put it in how water to warm it up a little more.

I took the mouse out so early because I only got the BP a couple days ago and I don't want him to get more stressed out than he needs to be.

If my snake will eat f/t I'll never feed it live. My boa only eats live for some reason and it's a nightmare

My boy not only has terrible aim, he'll strike at nothing while I'm presenting the room. Even with the bad aim, he's never missed a feeding.

you should leave any new BP u get for at least week before u bother - either by feeding or to handle it - with the exception of changing out water

    Re: Bad Aim?

My norm BP has really bad aim, he goes for the white paper towel that i pre scent with, my nose, the feeding tongues,,,!! I now dip the f/t rats heads in boiling water for a few seconds, that tends to stop him eating it ass end first, and improves his strikes.

My bumblebee has laser guided, rapid, accurate striking abilites on the other hand
