The "Stare" and the "Yawn"
Hey,
its Andrew-still kinda new to the site.
I have a 7 month old female ball python.
She "stares" for minutes at a time, like when i hold her-she will hold a gaze with her neck erect. her tongue does not leave her mouth...hmm.
And I've always wondered about the "yawn deal"- i held her today and she yawned three times in like 40 mins.
any thoughts?

She might have an upper respiratory infection. Not sure though, more people will answer soon.

Sometimes snakes "yawn" to thermo-regulate and or to re-align their jaws.

Many BP's do both those behaviors. Mine do too.

Unless you significantly notice it happening consistently I wouldn't worry about it too much.
